Ophiuchus – All about him and the constellation

Ophiuchus – Pronounced — off -ih- YOU-kuss – is a constellation between Scorpius and Sagittarius, and also to the north it is between Aquila, Serpens and Hercules. In the North it is best viewed in the summer, directly opposite Orion.

What is Ophiuchus?

He is a man holding a serpent, the serpent is wraped behind his head over his sholders dividing the serpent into 2 sections. One being the “Serpens Caput” otherwise called the head of the snake and the “Serpens Cauda” the tail of the snake. Ophiuchus in Greek is “Serpent Bearer”.

Why all the attention now?

Many people assume that this is a new constellation added to the zodiac recently. Alot of people say that due to the slight movement of the earths rotation over the past few thousand years that it is new to the zodiac. This is false sad to say. The truth of the matter, after doing some research in disbelief myself is that he has been apart of the zodiac since the beginning. They just did not include him with the rest of the signs, either because of the short duration the sun moves through or because of how insignificant he truly may be.

The “new” discover is nothing more than knowledge that has been known for many of years and just making surface and causing new hype because everyone has their zodiac signs are being changed. People like to cause a stir, and bring new “enlightening ideas” that have been around forever up to the surface for those who have no idea to create a ruckus about. Its up-surd… anyways Im getting off topic here.

The 13th sign of the zodiac, unlike the other 12 signs is actually associated with a real person. In the 27th Century BCE in Ancient Egypt lived a man known as Imhotep. Imhotep was known as ‘Aesclepius’ by the Ancient Greeks, however the attributes are the same under either name.

One of Imhoteps abilities was healing and it is said that it was he who introduced it to mankind. His accomplishments also included a wide knowledge of medicine. The serpent or snake symbol which is still used today to symbolize the medical profession was also used to represent Imhotep.
